The big Summer movie this year was Disney Inside Out. Our whole family loved the movie and I was pretty excited when my son told me that Inside Out was the theme he wanted for his fourth birthday party. As always, I jumped on Pinterest to start searching for Disney Inside Out Birthday Party Ideas but unfortunately I was unable to find many that I loved. I’m assuming it’s because the movie is still very new. This just meant that I had to get creative. I hope you like the ideas that I came up with!
Disney Inside Out Decoration Ideas
I was pretty excited to find all of our Disney Inside Out decorations on OrientalTrading.com. There, I purchased our Inside Out themed plates and napkins. I purchased our cups, forks, and tablecloths in the colors of the Inside Out characters – yellow, blue, green, purple, and red. At our parties, I always have a themed table set up. For the backdrop of our themed table, I hung the different colored tablecloths on the wall, and then matched those colors with the tablecloths on the tables. When it came to actual party decorations, there weren’t many available. I found a Disney Inside Out calendar that I thought would be perfect. I separated the pages and hung the pictures around the yard, starting with the themed wall.
Disney Inside Out Party Food Ideas
The themed food table is the most important part of my parties. I love having the food tie everything together. Again, there were not many Inside Out themed food ideas online, so here’s what I came up with:
“Joy’s Mac & Cheese” – Mac & Cheese is a favorite of all kids and the yellow color was perfect to match up with Joy!
“Disgusting Pizza” – In the movie, Disgust is pretty grossed out by the broccoli pizza they find in San Francisco, so of course broccoli pizza was a must for the party. I didn’t actually order broccoli pizza though. Instead I drew broccoli on the boxes of red sauce pizza we ordered from Crugnale Bakery. If you’re ever in Rhode Island, you must try this pizza! Yummy!!
“Sadness Sandwiches” – I always order tuna salad, chicken salad, and seafood salad sandwiches for our parties and “Sadness Sandwiches” just sounded good. 🙂
“Anger’s Chourico & Peppers” – Chourico & Peppers is always a hit with my big Portuguese family, and what better to pair up with Anger than some spicy chourico?
“Jangles’ Pasta Salad” – You can’t forget about Jangles the Clown! Pasta salad seemed like a fun thing to match up with Jangles.
“Rainbow Unicorn Fruit Salad” – My boys loved the Rainbow Unicorn in Inside Out so I wanted to include her in our themed table. This was easily done by creating a rainbow shape on a tray out of cut up fruit pieces.
“Fear of Snakes” – Fear was included on the candy table. I simply threw some gummy worms in a purple dish and called them snakes. Scary!
“Bing Bong Tears” – If you saw the movie Inside Out, you know that Riley’s imaginary friend, Bing Bong, cries candy tears. This made for a super simple themed dish. I tossed some Smarties, Dum Dums, Taffy, and Bubble Gum in a dish and labeled it “Bing Bong Tears”.
“Memory Orbs” – The whole Inside Out movie is based on Riley’s memories, which are contained in Memory Orbs. Gum balls make the perfect Memory Orbs!
Disney Inside Out Drink Ideas
“Sadness’ Tears” – I used blue Gatorade to create “Sadness’ Tears”.
“Anger’s Punch” – Anger’s Punch was red cherry flavored Kool-Aid.
Disney Inside Out Birthday Cake
Joshua’s Inside Out Birthday Cake was a 12″ round chocolate cake. I frosted it with purple buttercream frosting and added M&M’s all around to be the memory orbs. Joy stood at her console at the top of the cake, and the rest of the emotions stood around the bottom of the cake. I also made Funfetti cupcakes.
To entertain the kids, I rented a bouncy house and a cotton candy machine. I usually let the boys choose between an ice cream sundae bar or cotton candy machine for their birthday parties, but since Riley’s imaginary friend, Bing Bong, is made of cotton candy, I felt cotton candy was a must for this party! As always, every loved it!
