This past weekend, my littlest love turned three years old! Joshua’s favorite movies are Disney Pixar’s Monsters Inc and Monsters University so when asked what theme he wanted for his birthday party, of course he answered “I want a Sulley party!” Because he really loves all the characters in both movies, I decided to combine the two for our party. As always, I jumped on Pinterest to check out some Monsters Inc birthday party ideas. I found lots of cute decorating tips but not many themed food ideas so I had to get a little creative. I’ve pulled together a list of all my ideas to help you throw the perfect Monsters Inc/University party.
Decorations:
For this party I went with a lime green (Mike Wazowski’s color) and teal (Sulley’s color) color scheme. The table clothes, forks, spoons and cups were purchased from Oriental Trading, in those colors. Oriental Trading also carried Monster’s University dinner and dessert plates. They were super cute and reasonably priced so I grabbed them. They also had a Monsters University backdrop and life sized cut out of Mike and Sulley. I knew Joshua would love them and they would make great pics, so I grabbed them as well. The backdrop came with little cardboard cut outs to decorate it with but instead, I used those cutouts to decorate the walls and our deck. I also strung lime green and teal streamers around our deck. I purchased a Monster Inc pack of balloons online about a month before the party but on the day of the party, I couldn’t find them anywhere! We went to Party City hoping they carried Monsters Inc balloons and luckily, they did. We also found out that helium fill ups are free when you purchase balloons from their store, even if you buy them ahead of time and go back to have them filled on the day of your party (just bring your receipt with you). I had no idea! We will definitely be purchasing our balloons in store from now on.
Monsters Inc/University Themed Party Food:
I always make little cards with pictures of our theme’s characters and a fun themed name for the food. This is what I came up with for Joshua’s Monsters Inc Birthday Party:
- Randall’s Pizza
- Sulley Sandwiches
- Waternoose’s Chourico & Peppers
- Oozma Kappa Potato Salad
- Celia’s Pasta Salad
- Mike Wazowski – Round platter filled with grapes and whipped cream in the middle.
- Boo’s Mac N Cheese
- HarryHausen’s Sushie – Peanut butter and jelly rolled up. This one I got off Pinterest and everyone loved it! Click here for a great tutorial.
- Smores Doors – Graham crackers topped with Fluff and Hershey’s chocolate bars.
- Monster Lollipops – I found these adorable pops on Amazon and they were the perfect addition to our themed table!
Monsters Inc Birthday Party Themed Drinks:
- Roz’s Creature Chiller – Blue Gatorade
- Monster Juice – Green Gatorade
Monster’s Inc Birthday Party Cake:
I found the perfect birthday cake idea on Pinterest. Mike Wazowski sitting on top of a “Sulley” cake. I showed Joshua the picture and he LOVED it. He did ask me if I could add “Boo” to the cake and of course I couldn’t say no to my baby. This is the final product –
Monsters Inc Birthday Party Entertainment:
As always, we rented a bouncy house for the party. I feel that it’s the best way to keep the kids entertained and to let the parents actually have some time mingle with each other. We also rented a cotton candy machine from A-Z Rentals. We rent from them every year and have always had great experiences. Their equipment is always clean and in great working order and best of all, their rentals are from Friday to Monday so no running around on the day of the party. For a little extra fun, we had a big cardboard cut out of the Student ID cards from Monsters University. All of the kids, and some of the adults, had a blast having their pictures taken! Like all of our other parties, this party was a huge success and I had so much fun pulling it all together! I hope you find these tips and ideas helpful in throwing your little monster the perfect Monsters Inc Birthday Party!
