While looking for cake ideas for my son’s Frozen themed Birthday party back in June, I came across Sugar Cone Christmas Trees. I loved the idea and included a few on his birthday cake. While making them, I thought these would be a perfect Christmas activity for my boys.
Sugar Cone Christmas Trees
These Sugar Cone Christmas Trees are so fun to make, and easy enough for any child to be able to make their own! Here’s what you’ll need to make them:
Supplies
- Sugar Cones
- Assortment of Sprinkles/Jimmies
- Candy of your choice
- Frosting
Directions
The first step in making these Sugar Cone Christmas Trees is to secure your cones to a paper plate using frosting as the glue. Next, pipe the frosting onto the sugar cones using a star shaped pastry tube. This will give the sugar cone a pine tree look. You don’t have to be a perfectionist when adding the frosting to your sugar cone because tiny hands are just going to squish it! I used the same buttercream frosting recipe I use on all my cakes and cookies. You can find the recipe in my Halloween Cookie post.
Next, let your child sprinkle colored sugar, jimmies, and non pariels all over the trees. This part can be messy but just go with it. I always say, children are meant to be messy and messes can be cleaned! Have fun and enjoy these special moments with your little ones!
Now it’s time to add the candy! I used M&M’s but obviously you can use your favorites! Some other suggestions would be Reese’s Pieces, Skittles, and Sweet Tarts. The possibilities are endless.
My boys definitely got more candy in their mouths than on their trees but this was such a fun Christmas activity! We will definitely be making these Sugar Cone Christmas Trees every year from now on. Just another fun family tradition to add to our list!
